Tutoring Services

How we can help:

The Toro Learning Center provides free peer tutoring services to currently enrolled CSUDH students who are working on CSUDH course assignments.

The TLC staff cares about your academic success. This is why we are here to offer practical suggestions and help you develop strategies you can use inside and outside of the classroom. Consider your tutors as your trustworthy advisors who will help you navigate through your educational journey. Since it is your journey, tutors can only help you through your learning process rather than telling you what to correct or do. With your tutors’ personal attention and your practice, time and effort, you’ll gain the skills, tools, and confidence to reach your academic goals.

How to Schedule a Tutoring Session

Contact the center in person or by phone to schedule a 25 minute tutoring appointment. Same day and scheduled appointments are available on a first come, first served basis. Please expect to present a validated CSUDH Student ID Card to access our services and center.

Also please expect to provide your tutor with:

  1. A paper copy or draft of your work
  2. A copy of your assignment/professor’s instructions
  3. Any other relevant materials (textbook, guides, etc.) concerning the topic you are seeking assistance in

Please read our complete Center Guidelines below.

How to prepare for a session:

  • Schedule your appointment at least one week before the assignment is due.
  • Show up on time for your session.
  • Bring a typed paper copy of your work, your professor’s instructions and all relevant materials.
  • Don’t expect your tutor to “fix” your mistakes.
  • Take the time to understand your tutor’s suggestions and put them into practice.
  • Be patient with yourself; building your skills will take time.
  • Take responsibility for your work. Your tutor will offer suggestions and strategies, but it’s ultimately up to you to complete the assignment.
  • Give us your feedback on your tutoring sessions and our services, so we can keep improving them.
