The gateway to Encounter to Excellence, Summer Bridge Academy is a six-week summer program required for participating students who need to take developmental English and math classes. Completed before the fall semester starts, Summer Bridge Academy focuses on building the English and math skills required for CSUDH classes and allows students to get an Early Start on completing required developmental courses. A key part of Encounter to Excellence is one-on-one, intensive academic advising. Your student will be assigned an academic advisor who takes a proactive approach to make sure your student:
If your student is struggling with a particular class or subject, his or her academic advisor will intervene early to work with the student and professor before the student falls behind or fails the class.
Offered only to Encounter to Excellence students, free tutoring in English, math and other academic subjects strengthens your student's academic skills and confidence for success in class.
Encounter to Excellence follows a cohort model, in which a small, supportive group of first-time freshman complete the Summer Bridge Academy and Encounter to Excellence experience together. The success rate of students in cohort models like this is very high.
