Graduation Writing Exam (GWE)

The Graduation Writing Exam (GWE) is one of the two ways to satisfy the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR). The GWE is offered on campus 5 times a year in September, November, February, April, and July. The exam is offered to our distance learning students in the fall, spring, and summer. Distance learning students should contact their program coordinators for further information.

All Graduation Writing Exams will begin at 7:15 AM.


Registration for the Graduation Writing Exam will open 5 weeks before the exam and close at 4:00 PM, 8 days prior to the exam date.

Steps for Registering:

  1. Click on the GWE Marketplace link.
  2. Select the Graduation Writing Exam icon for the exam.
    Select Preparation Presentation/Handbook icon for the Preparation Presentation.
  3. Complete the required registration forms and pay the $35 fee.  Exam fee is payable by credit or debit card.
  4. Download your ticket and map of the check-in location.
  5. Be sure to check your inbox AND spam inbox.  An e-mail will be sent to you containing a presentation authorization number that will allow you to register for a presentation.  This e-mail contains a link to the site where you may also download your ticket and map.

Testing with Accommodations

Students who wish to test with accommodations are required to register and provide appropriate documentation for arrangements, either due to a disability or Saturday Sabbath observance, by the registration deadline.

Disabilities or Health-Related Needs

If a student has a disability or health-related need and requires testing accommodations, they must contact the office of Disabled Student Services.

Religious Convictions

If religious convictions prevent a student from taking the GWE on the scheduled test dates, they must contact the Testing Office to make arrangements once they have registered.

Students will be required to provide a letter on official letterhead from an appropriate religious authority to the Testing Office.  Contact the Testing Office for instructions on providing this latter.

GWE Preparation Presentation

Presentations take place the weekend before the exam.  The Friday evening presentation is held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  The Saturday morning presentation is held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  Presentation locations will be posted at the registration site.  You may register with your authorization code for the presentation by returning to the marketplace and selecting the Presentation Icon.  The preparation presentation is free.
