English Placement Test (EPT) &
Entry Level Mathematics Test (ELM)

"The EPT and the ELM are not admission tests.  They will not affect your admission to any CSU campus--they simply determine which courses best match your level of performance in math and English." -ETS.org/CSU

Registration

Students register for the EPT/ELM online through ETS.

Registration fees are due at the time of registration.  Registration fees may be paid by credit or debit card, PayPal, or e-check.  Fee waivers are not available for the EPT/ELM.  Students may complete their placement exams at any California State University (CSU).  Exam dates for all CSUs are available at ETS.org/csu.

Testing with Accommodations

Students who wish to test with accommodations are required to register and provide appropriate documentation for arrangements, either due to a disability or Saturday Sabbath observance, by the registration deadline.  Deadlines are usually two weeks before the test date.

Note from ETS:  If a student does not contact the campus Testing Office at least two weeks before the test date, the student may not receive appropriate accommodations and will not receive a refund.

Disabilities or Health-Related Needs

If a student has a disability or health-related need and requires testing accommodations, they must contact the office of Disabled Student Services at the campus where they plan to test to make arrangements prior to registration.  The EPT and ELM are available in Braille, large print, and audio editions.

Students will be required to provide the necessary IEP paperwork to DSS.  Contact DSS for instructions on providing this paperwork.  DSS will provide instructions for students to complete online registration; students must be sure they select the appropriate check box for accommodations.

Religious Convictions

If religious convictions prevent a student from taking the EPT and/or ELM on the scheduled test dates, they must contact the Testing Office at the campus where they plan to test to make arrangements prior to registration.

Students will be required to provide a letter on official letterhead from an appropriate religious authority to the Testing Office.  Contact the Testing Office for instructions on providing this latter.  On the online registration system, students must select the appropriate check box for religious observance when registering for the test(s).
