The UCRC consists of a team of inter-disciplinary faculty and student researchers exploring important community issues using community-based, participatory research methods. The following principles guide the scholarly work in the lab: community participation, applied research, field methods, strong collaborative processes with community partners, and a focus on health and social justice issues. The laboratory currently includes collaborative evaluation activities with community-based agencies such as AIDS Project Los Angeles. The community studies lab integrates the strengths of the sociology program in various approaches to teaching and research on community issues.
