Program Entry Pathways

There are two methods of becoming an Intern with a California State Intern Credential that will allow you to teach for two years until you receive your Preliminary Credential. In any case you must obtain the State Intern Credential in order to remain in the CSUDH Intern Program.

New to the University and Special Education Program:

  1. Must have a full-time teaching contract in Special Education.
  2. Apply to the University (http://www.csumentor.edu/).
  3. Apply to Teacher Education Division (Special Education Intern Program Option – SEIP).
  4. Contact Special Education Office (310-243-2257) to obtain advising on Intern information.
  5. Contact SOE Student Services to obtain and submit state Intern Credential application.
  6. Attend the New Student Orientation meeting.
  7. Contact advisor for Intern Advising Plan (see Plans [PDF]).
  8. Maintain appropriate GPA (see catalog).
  9. Apply for Preliminary Credential after completion of program requirements.

Currently in the Special Education Student Teaching Option:

  1. Must have a full-time teaching contract in Special Education.
  2. Contact Special EducationOffice (310-243-2257) to obtain state Intern and Advising information, complete *Change of Objective form.
  3. Contact SOE Student Services to obtain and submit state Intern Credential application.
  4. Contact advisor for Intern Advising Plan.
  5. Register for appropriate field experience course.
  6. Maintain appropriate GPA (see catalog).
  7. Apply for Preliminary Credential after completion of program requirements.
