Physics Department

Physics Professors

The CSUDH physics department combines a stimulating, supportive, and flexible learning environment with academic excellence at the frontiers of science. Physics is the study of the fundamental laws of nature upon which all of the natural and applied sciences are based. A degree in physics provides one with the knowledge and skills to confidently approach and solve fundamental and applied scientific problems.

We offer a BS in physics with a concentration in physics or physical science (for future high school teachers) and are currently pursuing the establishment of an MS in Physics program. Our educational goal is to instill our students with the background to go on to graduate school in physics or other sciences or technical careers in private industry.

CSUDH Physics is distinguished by its excellence in research. We have nationally recognized research programs in experimental cosmology, plasma physics, space physics, elementary particles and relativity, nuclear physics, particle astrophysics and cosmic rays, medical applications of physics, biophysics, and non-linear science. We study a variety of topics from the curvature of the universe and grand unification of the fundamental forces in nature, to space plasmas, exploding stars, stellar fusion, particle astrophysics and cosmic rays, and new techniques for diagnostic imaging, modeling the strength and elasticity of bones and arteries, and radiation therapy.
