To earn the MPA degree, students must complete thirty-six (36) units consisting of twenty-seven (27) units of required core coursework and nine (9) units of elective courses. In addition, students admitted who are found to be deficient in public administration coursework are required to complete prerequisite courses either on-campus or online. Online pre-requisite courses are offered as 'bridge' courses (See "Prerequisite Courses" under "Academics"). Students must enroll in pre-requisite courses prior to enrolling in core curriculum.

All MPA core and elective courses are three (3) credit units each. All bridge courses are two (2) credit hours.

The MPA curriculum consists of the following components:


Core courses: 27 units
Electives: 9 units
Total: 36 units***


The MPA program offers students the opportunity to specialize by completing units within a substantive subject area:

  • Public Management
  • Criminal Justice Policy and Administration
  • Health Care Policy and Administration
  • Nonprofit Management
