UNIVERSITY LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY USE POLICY

Checking out Technology

The Technology Checkout Program has 60 Laptops and 40 iPads available for checkout at no cost to currently enrolled CSUDH students. Current CSUDH campus IDs are a requirement for each checkout transaction, and students must also fill out a Master Rental Agreement form (MRA) form that sets forth the conditions and responsibilities for the checkout of laptops and iPads.

All devices are the property of California State University, Dominguez Hills and must be returned to the Technology Checkout Office by the agreed upon return day and in the same condition that they were received. Students must also pay any fees and charges incurred under the MRA related to damage, missing parts, or failure to return the device on time. Patrons agree to hold CSUDH harmless from any and all loss, liability, or damages caused by or arising out of maintenance, use, or operation of the device during the rental.

Patrons also must utilize the device in accordance with all state and federal laws. Patrons are not permitted to install software or applications, remove software or applications, tamper with or reconfigure the operating system or components, remove the wireless card, alter any settings, or attempt to repair the device without the permission from the Technology Checkout Program. Patrons are also required to stop using the device if the operating system reports irreparable hardware failure and to inform the library staff of the problem as soon as possible.

Use of Individual Workstations

The University Library provides computer workstations to support the scholarly activities of CSUDH faculty, students, and staff. Priority use of library computer workstations is for members of the CSUDH community who are conducting academic research.

Please be sensitive to the public nature of shared computer workstations and do not:

  • Display messages, images, or sounds that could create an atmosphere of discomfort or harassment for those around you.
  • Display or transmit images or messages containing obscene, offensive, or discriminatory material.
  • Display or transmit content that is in violation of state or federal law or university policies.

Additionally, please do not make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software, alter software configurations, or conduct any malicious or illegal activities using the university’s equipment.

Username and Passwords

CSUDH username and passwords are required in order to log onto the library computers.

It is prohibited to share or allow others to use your username and password to log onto the library workstations.

Printing, Copying, and Scanning

Printing
All CSUDH faculty, staff, and students have access to the library’s printers. Print jobs sent from library computers will display on all library printers in the building. Black and white printers are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the library south building.

Next to each printer is a bill and coin machine for print job payment. The maximum amount that the bill and coin machine accepts is $5. Printing costs $0.15 per page.

Copying
Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members have access to the library’s copiers. Copy centers are located on the second floor of the library north building and on the third floor of the library south building. Copies cost $0.15 per page.

Scanning
All CSUDH faculty, staff, and students have access to the library’s scanners. Scanners are located on the second floor of the library south building. The scanners are connected to library computers; therefore, all scanned documents can be saved and printed. Scanning is free of charge, unless the scanned documents are printed.

Copyright
Copyright law of the United States, (U.S. Code: Title 17) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Photocopying or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If users copy material in violation of copyright law, they will be liable for copyright infringement. The library reserves the right to refuse to accept requests for copying assistance if it would involve violation of copyright laws.

Printing/Copying Refunds

The University Library provides cash refunds in the following situations:

  • At the copiers
    • When the coin box attached to the copier takes the patron's money but does not make the copies.
    • When the copier jams or does not produce the copies after the patron has put money in the coin box.

Please ask for assistance at the Course Reserves Desk, which is adjacent to the copy room on the library’s main floor.

  • At the print stations
    • A refund will be given only if there is an error caused by the computers or printers. This is rare because even if the printer jams, once the jam is cleared, the print job will proceed. No refund will be given if the person made a mistake in printing or what was printed was not what was expected. Instead of a refund, a reprint using the printer or a departmental printer may be made at the discretion of the Technology Checkout Program supervisor on duty at the time.

Change
The library does not provide change.

The Wells Fargo ATM located in the Loker Student Union next to the Bookstore dispenses $1 and $5 bills that can be used in the library’s print and copy machines. Bank fees may apply.
