Physical Education offers a variety of programs including a major with different options leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and a Master of Arts in Physical Education Administration option.
Teaching Option is designed to provide students with the essential skills and the comprehensive knowledge from multiple perspectives including biological and physical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and humanities. As the central discipline of Physical Education is human movement, the goal of the program is to prepare the motivated professional physical educators who will lead diverse individuals and populations towards healthy life and wellbeing of humankind through promotion of lifelong participation positive healthy practices.
Pre-Physical Therapy Option is designed to prepare students to complete a bachelors in arts and full-fill the pre-requisites coursework for graduate studies in various allied helath professions including: athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, orthotics/prosthetics, and chiropractic. A student in this option will be required to complete 65 units of course work focusing on the basic science including: anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biology and chemistry.
Fitness Director Option is designed to provide students with a general foundation in the principles and theories of exercise prescription and the skills needed by frontline of exercise specialist in a fitness setting. A student in this option will acquire the essential knowledge in a variety of disciplines, such as exercise physiology, kinesiology, motor learning, sports nutrition, and test/measurement in physical education, to be eligibly certified as a fitness instructor, exercise specialist, or fitness director by a national professional organization.
Graduate studies in Physical Education Administration option is designed to lead students to the professional fields including college and school PE teacher, coach, and athletic director. A student in this option is required to complete 30 units of course work with a minimum 3.0 grade average. A Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement must be met by all candidates prior to classified standing, which can be satisfied either by attaining a passing score of “8” on the GWE or with a passing grade of at least a “B” in one of the certified courses on this campus.
