America Happens Here: Reflection On Making It Real

Creative and Academic Contest

As part of the inauguration festivities of CSUDH President Willie J. Hagan, the Presidential Inauguration Committee invites students, staff and alumni to participate in a creative and academic contest on the theme “American Happens Here: Reflections On Making It Real.”

Participants are encouraged to reflect on all that CSUDH means to them, and to create and submit an original work of poetry, spoken words, cinema, essays, music, and video that is reflective of this theme. All work must be original and must not have been submitted elsewhere.

The categories are:

  • Essay Contest. Write an essay (999 words maximum) discussing what the theme “America Happens Here” means to you, to your community, and to the CSUDH family
  • Video productions, including music and film. Create a 5 minute video clip highlighting how CSUDH has touched your life and/or the lives of its surrounding communities.
  • Art. Submit a description and a photo of an art piece you drew reflecting the theme “America Happens Here.”
  • Poetry. Write a poem or written words (50 lines maximum) reflecting on how “America happens” at CSUDH.
