When do I pay the $30 Application Fee?

  • After you submit a University Housing application through the Portal, you must pay a housing application fee of $30.00 online at My.CSUDH.EDU (or by mailing a check to the CSUDH Cashier's Office, 1000 East Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747) in order to complete your application. This fee is non-refundable.
  • Your housing application fee MUST be paid within 5 business days in order for it to be processed. Failure to pay the application fee within 5 business days will result in the cancellation of your application.
  • Both your application AND the $30 fee MUST be received by the priority deadline in order to make the priority cut-off date. Submitting an application by the deadline, but paying the $30 application fee AFTER the deadline will result in your being placed on the waiting list.
  • Please be aware that it may take up to 48 business hours for the $30 fee to appear on your account.

When do I pay the $300 Security Deposit?

  • After we've received your application and $30 application fee and are able to offer you a space, we will contact you via your Toromail account and ask you to submit a $300 Security Deposit in order to reserve that space.
  • Do not pay the deposit until University Housing contacts you and specifically requests that you do so.
  • Depending on when your application is received, you may be asked to submit your security deposit at the same time as your first rent payment.

Will my Financial Aid help pay for rent?

  • When you apply for Financial Aid, you will need to indicate on the application that you want on-campus housing so that your total award reflects the cost of living on campus.
  • If you are receiving Financial Aid, you may defer your rent payment until your award is disbursed. You will just need to give University Housing Services a copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter.
  • The $300 Security Deposit, however, CANNOT be deferred, and you are responsible for paying it when it is requested by our office.

For more information, visit our Financial Aid Office.

How are roommates/apartment-mates assigned?

  • If you know other students who currently live or will be living in University Housing, you can request them through the Housing Portal and every effort will be made to place you in the same apartment. Please make sure that you and your preferred roommate(s) have all applied for the same term, that you request each other, AND that you are choosing the same apartment type. You will also be able to search for and communicate with potential roommates or apartment-mates through the Portal.
  • If you do not know anyone with whom you might want to share an apartment, roommates will be assigned to you based on your answers to the questions in the Profile section of the Application.
  • First-year students can only room with other first-year students. Likewise, upperclass students (sophomore and above) can only room with other upperclass students.
  • While every effort is made to accommodate specific roommate requests and to match you with compatible roommates, University Housing cannot guarantee that you will get the people you requested or that you will get a completely compatible roommate.

Can I apply for Housing before I am admitted to CSUDH?

What if I am not offered a space in Housing?

  • If you are on the waiting list for a particular term, and you are not offered a space in Housing, your application is NOT automatically forwarded to the next term; i.e., if you are on the waiting list for the academic year, your application will NOT be carried over to spring term. You will need to submit a new application.
  • If you paid the $30 Application Fee for the academic year and were NOT offered a space in Housing for that term, then you may carry that fee over to spring term, should you decide to apply for that term.

Does CSUDH offer meal plans to students?
