The Toro Dreamers Success Center at California State University, Dominguez Hills is the product of the collaborative efforts of our Undocumented Student Ally Coalition (USAC) and Espiritu de Nuestro Futuro (E.N.F.), CSUDH’s immigrant student alliance. Together, USAC and ENF delivered the first-ever Undocumented Student Ally Training at CSU Dominguez Hills in the spring of 2015. The 35 participants who attended this training included staff, faculty, students, and administrators. As is typically the case, our Undocumented Student Ally Training included an undocumented student panel who shared their experiences as students at CSU Dominguez Hills. Combined with these student testimonials were data from focus groups with undocumented students at CSU Dominguez Hills conducted by Dr. Corina Benavides-Lopez, Assistant Professor of Chican@Studies. Ally training participants were so moved by the students’ testimonials that they began pushing for a Dream Center at CSUDH to begin to establish a formal support system for undocumented students on our campus. Consequently, USAC was asked to form a Dream Center Task Force and develop a proposal for a Dream Center at CSUDH. This proposal was completed in the fall of 2015 and approved in the spring of 2016 with the aim of hiring a full-time Coordinator and opening the doors to our new Toro Dreamers Success Center during the 2016-2017 school year.
