There are several special graduation celebrations that take place prior to University Commencement that celebrate the accomplishments of students from the university's many diverse communities.

Asian and Pacific Islander Grad Celebration

This celebration provides graduating Asian and Pacific Islander students, their families and friends an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments.

The Asian and Pacific Islander Graduation Celebration is open to all students, regardless of ethnicity.


Dolores Huerta Grad Celebration

Often times university students from Chicana/o, Latina/o communities are the first to pursue higher education in their families. The Dolores Huerta Graduation Celebration provides these graduating students, their family, and friends a special ceremony to celebrate their accomplishments at CSU Dominguez Hills. Participation in the celebration is voluntary, but offers a unique opportunity to engage in a fulfilling recognition of their sacrifice and dedication as undergraduate or graduate students.

The celebration is bilingual, in Spanish and English, and consists of musical performances, dance, and keynote speakers from the community. Each participating graduate has one minute on stage to thank anyone in attendance, thereby exemplifying the intimacy of the celebration.

The Dolores Huerta Graduation Celebration is a combined effort of student volunteers and departmental support, including, but not limited to, the Chicana/o Studies Department, the Africana Studies Department, M.E.Ch.A de CSUDH, the Chicana/o Studies Association, Al Frente Graduate Studies Association, Latino Faculty and Staff Association, the Multicultural Center, and more.

The Dolores Huerta Graduation Celebration is open to all students, regardless of ethnicity.

Douglass-Bethune Grad Celebration

The Frederick Douglass and Mary McLeod Bethune Graduation Celebration is designed to provide students, family, friends and the university community with an opportunity to participate in this African-centered program. The celebration acknowledges the scholastic achievements and accomplishments of the graduating students and also recognizes contributions made by those elders in our community who continue to exemplify strong leadership. The Douglass Bethune Graduation Celebration is open to all students, regardless of ethnicity.

Lavender Grad Celebration

The LGBTQIA+ Graduation Celebration at CSU Dominguez Hills recognizes graduating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Ally students of all races and ethnicities.

The celebration acknowledges our students' academic successes as well as honoring their personal journey and growth. Through such recognition, it is hoped that LGBTQIA+ graduates will feel encouraged to maintain a connection to the university, the faculty and staff, and their fellow students, and become engaged alumni.

The LGBTQIA+ Graduation Celebration is open to all students, family and friends.

Veterans Grad Celebration

The Veteran Student Graduation Celebration is an annual event that honors the academic achievements of our veteran student population. Our veterans have overcome overwhelming adversity both in the military and in their academic life. This celebration provides an opportunity to highlight the men and women who have served our country and who will be graduating.

The program will include dinner, guest speakers and a presentation of the “veterans medal” which participants will be encouraged to wear at Commencement.

California State University, Dominguez Hills is proud to acknowledge the scholastic achievements and accomplishments of all the graduating students and all are welcome at these ceremonies.
