The Financial Aid Office provides financial assistance to students through grants, loans, scholarships and work opportunities. Spring 2014 financial aid refunds are scheduled to be processed a few days before the first week of classes by Student Financial Services. The refund will be the balance after payment of any outstanding University obligations (e.g., tuition fees, housing charges, etc.). Refunds will continue to be processed each week during the semester. If you receive a refund and then decide to withdraw from the University or drop units, you will be required to repay all or part of the financial aid received. To receive a financial aid disbursement, students must be enrolled in the proper number of units, must not have any university holds on their student record, must not be conditionally admitted to the university, and have submitted all requested documents by the deadline. Students interested in borrowing a Federal Direct Loan must be enrolled at least half-time (6 units undergraduate and credential: 4 units masters level courses), AND are required to complete an Electronic Master Promissory Note (EMPN) and a Loan Entrance Interview online at www.studentloans.gov.
Federal Pell Grant Recipients: Your financial aid award is based on full-time enrollment (12 units undergraduate and credential). To receive your award, you must first be enrolled. If you enroll ¾ time (9-11 units), your grant will be reduced to 75% of the award amount. If you enroll half-time (6-8 units), your grant will be reduced to 50% of the award amount. If you enroll less than half-time (1-5 units), your grant will be reduced to 25% of the award amount.
State University Grant Recipients: Undergraduate students may not receive this grand if they have accumulated more than 150 semester units; undergraduate transfer students cannot accumulate more than 75 semester units and credential students cannot accumulate more than 30 semester units. Master students cannot accumulate more than 125% of the required units. Students pursuing a second Bachelor's, certificate, second Credential or second Master's degree are not SUG eligible; regardless of where they received their previous degree(s).
Please note: Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Military credit and Pre-baccalaureate credit and credit by examination will not count against the new SUG limits.
Direct Loan Disclosure Statement: If you plan to borrow a Federal Direct Loan, you will receive a Disclosure Statement form the Direct Loan Servicing Center.
Please Note: The Anticipated Disbursement date is NOT the date your Direct Loan will be available to you. Financial Aid awards are credited to your student account prior to the first week of classes.
Financial Aid Eligibility and Repeating Classes: Students are only eligible to receive financial aid once when retaking previously passed classes. For students that have previously passed a class and subsequently failed the same class, any additional attempt cannot be included in your enrollment status for determining aid eligibility. The Financial Aid Office will identify students who are repeating previously passed course work and reduce their awards based on the adjusted enrollment status. Students will be notified on their Toro email account and directed to the Student Center to view their revised awards. Repeated classes count against Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) which must be taken into consideration when determining aid eligibility.
