The Certificate

You can learn Entrepreneurship. In this modular certificate course, students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Students will gain knowledge and skills to assist themselves in the development of a start-up OR an existing business. The cornerstones of the program are learning, applying, engaging, and inspiring.

The certificate is offered jointly by the Toro Innovation Incubator (TII) and CSUDH College of Extended and International Education (CEIE), and is available to the general public. Participants will receive inspiration from successful, practicing TII mentor entrepreneurs and existing California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) faculty members who are passionate about teaching and mentoring.

Who Should Attend

The best prospective students is anyone who ever had the American Dream. Who wanted to start their own business or GROW their existing business, but lacked the management know how. All entrepreneurs welcome, from Gen Z to Baby Boomers, from Social and Serial entrepreneurs, from Lifestyle or Next Big Thing entrepreneurs, plus innovative and even disruptive entrepreneurs… all are welcome.

What You Will Learn

Participants will learn about six fundamentals of entrepreneurship:

  1. Importance of Planning and Strategy Formulation
  2. Effective Ethical Leadership
  3. HRM Planning for Entrepreneurs
  4. Financial Tools for Entrepreneurs
  5. Pitching the Deal to Investors
  6. 24 Steps & Social Media Marketing

Participants will also learn to apply the learning of the six fundamentals by writing and presenting to their classmates and to a mock Angel investor team made up of TII representatives for their final capstone class.

This eight-week course will be presented in a hybrid format: students will attend five on-campus sessions, and participate in on-line class sessions using the CSUDH BlackBoard Learning Management System (LMS). Students are required to complete the on-line readings and exercises. Students will also be required to participate by posting responses to instructor's questions and participating in class discussions utilizing the discussion board. See Course Schedule for specific meeting dates and times. The course week will begin on Mondays, 12 am and end on Sundays, 11:59 pm.
