Construction Project Management at CSUDH Extended Education
Construction professionals gain practical knowledge and expertise through the Certificate program in Construction Project Management. This innovative and timely series of courses is designed for construction personnel, contractors, architects, engineers, owners, developers, real estate professionals, city planning personnel, building managers, and those wishing to enter the field of construction management. You participate with others who face the same kind of professional problems; at the same time, you will obtain the skills necessary to successfully manage in the field of construction practices.
Topics covered include: construction accounting, acquisitions, estimation, plan reading, field project, management, real estate law, bidding and scheduling, and construction safety.
One of my students, Samuel Ngnagna (nana) is a Kenyan who has been in this country several years. He was in the building business in Nairobi and left when bad economic times hit there. He and his wife emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Atlanta. He took a job as a long-haul truck driver "to learn about the country" from coast to coast to coast. Then he decided that he wanted to get back to construction and began looking for a suitable certificate program. He says that the CSUDH program was exactly what he was looking for and he and his wife moved to Southern California specifically to be able to take our program. Hearing that really enforced my feelings about the value of the program as well as the responsibility we share for the well-being of the students taking classes in our program. Larry Kaltman, AIA, Instructor
To receive the Certificate, candidates must successfully complete eight intensive courses. Those who do not wish to pursue a certificate may take individual classes. All courses provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Plan Reading should be taken before Estimating. Field Project Management and Bidding and Scheduling should be taken at the end of the sequence.
Construction Project Management classes are offered on the CSUDH campus in Carson. Classes are convenient for people living and working in or near Los Angeles, Torrance, Long Beach, Carson, Compton, El Segundo, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Hawthorne, Gardena, Lakewood, Paramount, Bellflower, Downey, Inglewood and other parts of the South Bay and Southern California.
