Visual Style

The CSUDH Brand represents the voice of our brand, but it also requires a visual expression of the brand: the images and photography, graphic elements and design approach used to communicate who we are. As with all successful brands, the visual personality of our communications — across all mediums and departments — must be consistent, cohesive and instantly recognizable as ours.

Presented here are the core visual expressions of the CSUDH Brand, meant to serve as your visual and design guideposts for all communications you produce.

People

Individuals take the forefront in our visual brand. Communications should use photography featuring real CSU Dominguez Hills students, staff, faculty, alumni, employers, partners and community members. The photography used should represent a cross section of CSUDH’s diverse campus population.

Setting

People featured in CSUDH communications should be actively engaged in university settings that speak to our quality of academics, vibrant student life and beautiful campus and facilities.

Design Elements

Branded communications should make consistent and judicious use of the current marketing campaign’s design elements. This ensures that university materials have a coordinated, consistent and recognizable look, but also that they are periodically updated with a fresh and contemporary look and do not become dated.

A system of coordinated visual elements, including the logo, seal, color palette, fonts, and photography guidelines, pull the CSU Dominguez Hills graphic identity together. Following the visual style guidelines presented here ensures consistency in communicating the CSU Dominguez Hills brand across a wide variety of media.

University Logo

The University Logo with its red circular icon has a long, established history of use by the campus. The 2007 version is the official logo for CSUDH. Guidelines for use in conjunction with established program identity systems, such as the Athletics branding, have been developed.

University Seal

The CSUDH Brand program includes a newly rendered version of the University Seal that symbolizes the university’s history and mission. The new seal will be used as a special insignia reserved for documents of institutional and legal importance.

Color Palette

A family of colors has been developed specifically for use across the full range of CSU Dominguez Hills communications materials. The CSUDH color palette includes colors that have been used throughout the history of the campus and that also includes additional contemporary and student-focused options.

The university's color palette reflects the clarity and depth of the university’s values, and was developed to complement the CSU systemwide identity system and to differentiate CSU Dominguez Hills from its competitors. The color palette includes primary and secondary colors and usage guidelines.

Fonts

Three font families, Century Gothic, Avenir and Garamond, have been selected for use on CSU Dominguez Hills print communications. These type faces allow flexibility while maintaining a consistent visual character within the whole range of communication materials.

Consistent use of the recommended typography is necessary in order to achieve visual continuity and strengthen CSU Dominguez Hills brand presence.
