Akwaaba! Titambire! Welcome!
Welcome to the Africana Studies Department, “A Place Where Scholars, Thinkers, and Leaders are Nurtured”. We invite you to explore our website and learn about our unique and supportive learning community.
Our academic programs offer students the opportunity to study the historical, literary, and contemporary realities of the African world experience. We have an array of dynamic and accomplished faculty who work closely with students to achieve academic excellence and support them in accomplishing their professional goals. You will find that our programs, faculty, and staff are student-centered and are committed to preparing students for graduate study and careers in various disciplines.
Our supportive learning community combines academic programs and research with enrichment activities designed to enhance your educational experience. Such activities include mentoring, community service, cultural programs and professional development opportunities. We invite you to explore and become involved in the organizations that support the Africana Studies Department and the development of our students. These include the Organization of Africana Studies, Pan African Union, Sisters United Mentoring Program, Fannie Lou Hamer Queen Mother Society, CSUDH Black Faculty and Staff Association, and the California African American Political and Economic Institute.
Whether you are interested in pursuing Africana Studies as a major, a minor, or simply interested in learning more about the African diaspora, there is a place for you in our department. Please take a moment to visit us and take part in our vibrant community.
