Forms and Instructions

Incoming Applicants  For applicants who have not yet attended the University, and are requesting to change/correct reported residency information that may affect their CSU tuition and fees.  This form and instructions also applies to returning students who have lost continuing student standing and are now reapplying or returning students who are seeking a new degree and are now reapplying.  

Provide clear copies of documents that support your claim for residency.  Minor students must submit supporting documents for their parent(s).  Documents must be dated one year and one day prior to the Residence Determination Date for the term in which you are seeking residence status for tuition purposes.

  1. Complete a Residence Questionnaire form.
  1. Include at least ONE of the following:
  • Ownership, leasing, or continuous occupancy of residential property in California.
  • Most current California tax returns.
  • Verification of employment-pay stubs, showing California employment and covering current 12 months.
  1. At least FOUR of the following:
  • Registering a motor vehicle owned or operated in California.
  • Registering to vote and voting in California.
  • Obtaining a California driver's license or ID card.
  • Filing a resident or nonresident state personal income tax return.
  • Maintaining an active California branch bank account. Statements must reflect current 12 months.
  • Licensing from the state for professional practice.
  • Maintaining active resident memberships in professional organizations.
  1. If you are a citizen of another country, you must additionally submit paperwork on your current immigration status such as:
  • Copy of Green Card (front and back).
  • Visas or Employment Card (front and back).
  1. Submit complete request and supporting documents before the Residence Determination Date either by mail or in person to: Office of Admissions & Records, 1000 E. Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747.

 

AB-540 and/or AB-2000 Incoming Applicants. For eligible California high school graduates requesting consideration for the non-resident tuition exemption as provided by AB-540/AB-2000.

  1. Complete a California Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request form.
  1. Submit official high school transcripts showing your date of high school graduation.
  1. Submit complete request and official transcripts before the Residence Determination Date either by mail or in person to: Office of Admissions & Records, 1000 E. Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747.

 

Continuing Students.  For students who have already attended the University, and are eligible for reconsideration for their residency status for CSU tuition fees purposes.  

Provide clear copies of documents that support your claim for residency.  Documents must be dated one year and one day prior to the Residence Determination Date for the term in which you are seeking residence status for tuition purposes.

  1. Complete a Residence Reclassification Request form.
  1. Include at least ONE of the following:
  • Ownership, leasing, or continuous occupancy of residential property in California.
  • Most current California tax returns.
  • Verification of employment-pay stubs, showing California employment and covering current 12 months.
  1. At least FOUR of the following:
  • Registering a motor vehicle owned or operated in California.
  • Registering to vote and voting in California.
  • Obtaining a California driver's license or ID card.
  • Filing a resident or nonresident state personal income tax return.
  • Maintaining an active California branch bank account.  Statements must reflect current 12 months.
  • Licensing from the state for professional practice.
  • Maintaining active resident memberships in professional organizations.

  1. Provide proof of financial independence by submitting the following:
  • California tax returns, check stubs, and bank statements.
  • Federal income tax returns.  If you are under 26 years of age, you will need to submit your parent's federal tax returns. We will need copies of the three years prior to the year you apply for residency.
  1. Submit complete request and supporting documents before the Residence Determination Date either by mail or in person to: Office of Admissions & Records, 1000 E. Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747.
