As Provost, I am pleased to announce after a national search, the appointment of Dr. Kaye Bragg as Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the Division of Academic Affairs. Twenty of Dr. Bragg’s 25 years of experience in higher education have been with the CSU, most recently as Acting Associate Vice President for Academic Programs and Faculty Development at CSU Dominguez Hills. In that position, Dr. Bragg took on the challenging task of re-establishing the Faculty Development Center. She built bridges across Divisions and convincingly argued that investing in faculty development would yield considerable dividends to students and the University. Dr. Bragg demonstrated her ability to bring together diverging positions and competing interests on behalf of those whom we serve. She also skillfully implemented the migration of the tutoring center back to Academic Affairs by focusing on students' needs.

Dr. Bragg’s other administrative appointments include service as Acting Dean and Associate Dean of College of Business Administration and Public Policy at CSU Dominguez Hills. In these positions, Dr. Bragg worked with the faculty to update the curriculum with cutting-edge student learning outcomes in Business Administration and to successfully complete NASPPA accreditation review. She embraced technological innovation and worked with faculty in the development of new academic programs based on high impact strategies for student-centered learning.

Prior to working at CSUDH, Dr. Bragg was the Director of the Faculty Teaching and Learning Center and Assessment Office at CSU Bakersfield for 6 years. Dr. Bragg was the campus representative to the CSU Faculty Development Council, a member of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education, and active presenter at the Lilly Conference on College & University Teaching, EDUCAUSE and International Political Science Conference and Asian Studies Regional symposia.

Dr. Bragg graduated from the Colorado State University in history with a specialization in Asian studies, earned an M.A. in International Relations from Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver and a Ph.D. in Comparative Politics from Colorado State University. Her research and publications include nongovernment organizations, food and gender politics, teaching innovation and faculty development.

In her own words, she said, “I will be an advocate for a transformative undergraduate experience encouraging both faculty and students as they expand their ideas of what they can do and become.”

I also want to acknowledge and extend my thanks to the members of the Dean’s Undergraduate Studies Search Committee for their excellent work, and to all of the faculty, staff and administrators who attended the interviews and sent in their feedback.

Dr. Bragg officially starts in her new position on June 2, 2014. Please join me in welcoming Kaye as CSUDH’s new Dean of Undergraduate Studies!
