As Provost, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dorota Huizinga as the new Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. Dr. Huizinga comes to us from California State University, Fullerton’s (CSUF) – Irvine Campus, where she served as the Director for Special Projects and Professor of Computer Science. From 2008 to 2013, she served as CSUF’s Associate Vice President for Graduate Programs and Research, and additionally, from 2008 to 2011 she was the WASC Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO).

Prior to that, Dr. Huizinga served as the Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. She is a recipient of numerous CSUF outstanding faculty recognitions in the areas of scholarly and creative activities, teaching and service. In 2007, she co-authored a professional software engineering book, “Automated Defect Prevention–Best Practices in Software Management” published by John Wiley & Sons. Her research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the State of California and private industry.

Dr. Huizinga holds Ph.D. in Computer Science from Wayne State University, an M.S. in Computer Science from Western Michigan University, and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland. In her role as AVP, she successfully secured in excess of $3.7 million in federal grants from U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health in support of CSUF’s Graduate Studies and Research.

I also want to acknowledge and extend my thanks to the members of the Graduate Studies and Research Dean’s Search Committee for their excellent work, and to all of the faculty, staff and administrators who attended the interviews and sent in their feedback.

Dr. Huizinga officially will arrive on our campus on August 1, 2014. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Dorota Huizinga as the newest member of our CSU Dominguez Hills family!
